Aspinwall Neighbors will provide the supplies needed, and you can volunteer on the day and time that works best for you between Friday, April 23 and Sunday, April 25th. Volunteers will be asked to sign-up for specific areas to focus their clean-up efforts.
Aspinwall Neighbors will pass out supplies from 11am – 3pm on Saturday, April 24th on Commercial Avenue. Water and juice will be available to volunteers courtesy of Botanical Vegan Cafe & Market. The Aspinwall Police Department will also host a prescription drug take back to collect unused or expired medications.
Supply kits may also be picked up from the Borough Building beginning Tuesday, April 20 – Friday, April 23 during regular business hours.
Want to help keep our streets clean all year long? Aspinwall Neighbors is launching an adopt-a-block program where residents volunteer to regularly canvass assigned blocks in Aspinwall, tending to litter. Aspinwall Neighbors provides the volunteers with safety vests, gloves, and litter picks to assist the volunteers with their efforts. This program will begin in May 2021.
Almost a year ago, a neighbor invited the community to show their love and support for each other by raising a glass for Aspinwall’s first “porch toast.” Many of our neighbors have continued this tradition weekly throughout the pandemic. On Saturday, March 20th at 5pm, we invite all of our neighbors back out on their porches, stoops, and balconies to once again raise their glasses in a show of community strength.
We also invite you to show your love for the restaurants and businesses that mean so much to our neighborhood by shopping small and eating local. Make a purchase at a participating business below on March 20th and use your receipt to enter to win $150 in gift cards from local businesses!

Spread the Word
We want everyone to know about this event. Here’s how you can help:
Make a card and leave on a neighbor’s porch letting them know you’ll be participating and you hope to see them.
Share on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter or email to neighborhood friends.
Make your own chalk art announcement or window sign for passersby.
Make it Festive
Neighbors are encouraged to decorate their porches or create signs or chalk art with positive messages for the community (we knew you were looking for a reason to leave your holiday lights up).
Volunteers are needed to help clean up Aspinwall streets, alleys and parks. Aspinwall Neighbors will provide the supplies needed, and you can volunteer on the day and time that works best for you between Friday, October 23rd and Sunday, October 25th. How it works:
1) Sign up here to register. This will help us ensure we have adequate supplies and volunteers. Alleyways and parks are perfect for a family volunteer opportunity; high traffic areas are for adults only.
2) Pick up your supplies. Supply kits including vests, gloves and trash bags will be available at the Borough building between 8:30am – 4:30pm Tuesday – Friday (10/20- 10/23) or during the Drug Take Back on Saturday (10/24) from 10am – 2pm.
3) Clean up the neighborhood! Be sure to follow these safety protocols outlined by the PA Department of Transportation, wear a mask, and maintain distance from anyone outside your household.
4) Leave your trash in one of the designated areas or add your bag to your own can.
Do you drive a pick up truck?
Volunteers are also needed to collect trash bags from designated drop areas throughout the weekend. Sign up here.
Safety
All trash pick up should occur during daylight hours between Friday 10/23 and Sunday, 10/25.
Wear the safety vests and gloves provided while volunteering. We are not able to provide trash grabbers, but volunteers are welcome to provide their own or use kitchen tongs to minimize contact with debris.
Please review these safety guidelines provided by the PA Department of Transportation.
We also encourage you to watch this safety video, particularly if you will be volunteering in a high traffic area.
If you encounter any large or hazardous items, including needles, please call/text 412-303-2240 to arrange safe pick up.
Volunteer groups should be limited to members of the same household. Social distancing should be followed for members outside your household and/or face coverings should be worn.

Local businesses have always been our partner in supporting the Aspinwall community. Over the years they have helped us build a playground and provide much needed funds to our first responders. Last year alone they helped to raise $20,000 for Foxwall EMS, the Aspinwall Volunteer Fire Department and the Aspinwall Police Department.
Now it’s our turn to support them as we all do our part to keep our community safe. Many of our local retail shops and restaurants remain open for business and have adapted to provide contact-free delivery and curbside pick up. Please consider supporting the businesses who support our community!

Shout out to all our Supporters!
The Aspinwall community is supported by talented and kind-hearted businesses – Thank you to all of our past sponsors!
ANW is committed to building a safe, connected and informed community. This has been our mission since our founding in 2010, and the current situation reminds us of the significance of our core values. As we monitor the growing impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we know our community will work together to get through these unprecedented times. Already we have received an overwhelming show of support from our community with offers of help.
First and foremost, we would like to remind our neighbors that the best way to keep our community safe is to follow the CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of the highly contagious COVID-19. Current guidelines for staying safe and containing the spread are outlined here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prepare/prevention.html.
We recognize that social distancing measures and the need to self-isolate may place a significant burden on our most vulnerable community members. We would like to understand the needs of our neighbors and ask that anyone who may need assistance please complete the Aspinwall Community Needs Survey. Aspinwall businesses are also encouraged to complete this survey to help us understand how the community can best support our favorite local spots while observing social distancing measures.
As the health and safety of our neighbors is of the utmost importance, ANW is taking the following measures:
Community gatherings, such as our annual Earth Day Green Streets event, are under evaluation. Depending on CDC guidelines in place at the time, events may be canceled, rescheduled or changed to accommodate social distancing measures.
Our soup making and delivery program is temporarily suspended while we evaluate how we can safely provide this service to our neighbors.
ANW board and committee meetings will be held remotely.
Should ANW recruit volunteers to help our neighbors, all volunteers will be required to follow strict guidelines to avoid the potential spread of COVID-19.
Finally, we encourage you to pick up the phone and reach out to your neighbors and friends. While social distancing measures may keep us physically isolated, there are so many ways to stay connected. Stay positive, stay healthy, stay kind — we know our amazing community is up for the challenge and we’re here for you!
